Podiatry laser therapy involves directing laser light energy into inflamed or damaged tissues to accelerate the body’s natural healing process.
The laser is placed in direct contact with the skin which enables light photons to penetrate deep into the tissue and interact with molecules within the cells to cause several biomechanical effects: promote blood flow, reduce inflammation, and accelerate tissue repair.
Treatments are quick and painless and often you feel the results during the first treatment.
Laser has the following effects:
This therapy is used to treat conditions such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and soft tissue injuries.
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions 4 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 6 to 12 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.
We frequently combine laser therapy with other treatments. Using extra corporeal shockwave therapy alongside laser has produced very positive results in our clinical experience.
We will often incorporate exercise and rehabilitation programs as part of your overall therapy. Compliance with your treatment plan will only enhance your recovery.
During more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, very few side effects have ever been reported. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days following treatment, as the healing response is more active after treatment.
There are only a very small number of precautions – it is not to be used:
on pregnant ladies
on carcinoma’s/cancer
over the thyroid gland
on anyone who has haemophilia or blood clotting disorders
Eye protection must always be worn by anyone in the laser treatment area during treatment.
